so I will be in Zion Oct 9-14 and have been seeing some news about a hurricane making landfall on the west coast and affecting the weather in Zion. I know it’s still a week away but has anyone local been hearing anything or following any local weather at all? Just hoping it isn’t rainy the whole time I’m there. Thanks!
Your time frame should be okay for visiting. Although, of course, as with the nature of weather, it can definitely change quickly. But Yes, Hurricane Rosa (but will be a “tropical depression” when hits Northern Arizona and Utah) but is headed to the Southwest desert this week - Phoenix, Las Vegas, Zion and up to SLC. They say anywhere between 1”-4” in the next three days. Zion issued a flooding “watch” (not a “warning”) for now until Tuesday night. A watch means that flooding is imminent (or is occurring) vs. a warning where conditions are favorable for a flood but not guaranteed. So later this week, my guess is that most slot canyons will be topped off for your visit. I’m sure we will get some awesome pictures and videos of the flooding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In Mt Carmel, so far clouds but nothing precip. Looks like it ran east of here. Cedar Mesa area, perhaps, Hanksville, but not Zion. So far. Tom
Here is the progress of the rain, updated 7 mins ago. It’s moving slowly northward. The line shows the progress/direction of the hurricane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
