What happened in Heaps Canyon??? Spectrum Report 3:50pm

    ZION NATIONAL PARK — A canyoneering fatality was reported Monday night in Zion National Park, the first fatality in the park this year.

    Park public information officer Ron Terry said the accident occurred in Heaps Canyon – one of the canyons that enter into the upper Emerald Pools.



    Terry said the accident was reported to dispatch at 11:34 p.m. and rangers were dispatched at that time to the scene.

    Killed in the accident was Keith Beidermann of Garden Grove, Calif.

    Terry said the fatality is under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the National Park Service
