Hello, We descended the East Fork of Bluejohn canyon last Saturday the 29th. Exited to the east at the end of the narrows near the Red Nubs. The last 200 yds of the slot was a virtual graveyard of wildlife. We counted 2 Crows, 3 raptors, parts of a Coyote, and uncountable small birds, rats, mice.... Spoke with Karl Gramlich of the DWR office in Price tonight and he is extremely concerned with our description of the scene. We suspected a case of poisoning and Karl confirmed our suspicion, adding that this sounded like some "nasty stuff". Karl is not familiar with the area and we are going to hook up the weekend of the 22nd July to guide him to the site. He will collect a sample, have it analyzed, and if it is a case of poisoning look up the allotment and pursue the source. This is criminal.

Reason for this post...according to Karl this poison is not only harmful to wildlife but humans too. If you come across this or a similar scene do not approach the carcass, the poison can be absorbed through your skin or INHALED. Nasty stuff.

    Regards, --Bob

    Bob,

If it's any help, we did the East and Main Fork of Bluejohn on June 8th and found no dead animals as you report. You might give this info to Karl Gramlich since it might help him establish a time line.
