    Hi everyone,

I hate to be this guy, but I'm looking for rope bags. Got a couple of trips coming up this fall where they would be pretty useful. Not strictly necessary but, you know, useful.

What I'd really like is one or two Bagarino's. I could also go for one more small Silo. If anyone has any leads on these now rare-as-hen's-teeeth items, I'd greatly appreciate a head's up. I'd even consider buying that old one in the back of your gear closet that you don't use anymore, as long as it's not totally trashed. :) Feel free to contact me off list.

    Thanks for your time,

    Chris

I disagree that the Petzl rope bucket is a decent substitute for an Imlay bag. It might be an "ok" bag for a dry canyon, if you don't need to carry it very far. The Petzl bucket is heavy, bulky, stiff, and doesn't drain well. The version I have has no drain holes, so throat drainage (i.e. upchuck'n) is the only drain option w/o modification. A better option would be to purchase a Petzl Artuby canyon bag and add floatation to it. Very simply done with closed-cell foam.

I know its not as good as the Silos but I figured it would be among the very few available options right now..and its only $40 so he can chuck it or use it for a secondary once the Silo's come available....

Yah, the Artuby is pricy - bet you could talk it down, though - discontinued product can gather dust for years (yeah, it's discontinued). I know some people who have been using the Petzl bags for many years as a rope bag (and pack). They last a good long time. Still...ain't no ICG silo - the gold standard. Maybe even platinum.

Tom, do you have an ETA on the new ICG silo bags?

I am working with a new factory, but have not yet seen samples. Things are moving along slowly, as in glacially... argh! I cannot announce a date until I have one, but it seems like November 1 is slipping from my grasp as we speak...

Argh! I assume packs are in the same situation? Hopefully my Christmas wish list holds...

I'd be happy to make more rope bags. However, I'm having two problems: sourcing specific materials, and time. If anyone knows where I can get 300D polyurethane raft/dry bag material. Please let me know. Sealline won't give me their source for the material they make their black canyon bags out of.

All I could find was from alibaba.com, (basically a China distributor... buyer beware) with 1000yd+ minimum order, that's quite a few bags! :(
but some that I found were around $.60 to $.70 a yard so if you feel like making a $600-$700 investment, it may be an option! :)

    I'll keep looking though.

Not sure how to solve your time issue though.

Not by Christmas. I might make up special gift cards...

I lost confidence in the factory I was working with, but now have a new factory to work with which is very professional and comes with a stellar recommendation. Feb 1 is my new optimistic date.

OK, I'll just get out more tape.
Great to hear progress though, thanks for the update.

Yes, that was a very optimistic date. We have finally scheduled production. The scheduled ship date is May 30th from Shanghai. Add three weeks for ocean freight and customs - June 20th. In the meantime, I am having some product made in the USA. Colors - not too exciting. Quantities - limited. Profit for me - not so much. But at least it is something.
