Has any of you spent much time on the western part of the Tuckup Route in Grand Canyon? Can you tell me about the trail conditions and how far you were able to walk in a day? I'm scheming about linking a few of the canyons in that area, and wondering how long it would take. It's hard to tell from the topo maps and aerial photos whether it's a walk on a packed trail or a slog through soft sand, up and down gullies. Related: do you know how long after a rain the potholes on the Esplanade hold water?
Your timing! Many of the Grand Canyon Aces loaded boats today, and are launching tomorrow. You might try asking your question again in about a month! Tom
Which part? I have done the part from Toroweap to Stairway Canyon. My information is dated though. At the time the route was easy, but the trail obscure, with the exception of the first few miles from Toroweap. Sometimes it was just faster to forget about spending too much time trying to find the trail and to stike off cross country. You can't really get lost since you are on a bench the entire time. Most of the route is rock and packed dirt.
That's the part I'm interested in. I'd like to continue 5ish miles farther east to Fern Glen Canyon, but that's most of the distance. Excellent! Do you remember how long it took you to get from Toroweap to Stairway?
