So yup, rope twist has been drastically reduced. I hesitate to put a quantitative value on the amount of rope twist reduction since it is difficult to precisely measure. Another reason not to put a value on it is, you all have heard this from me before. lol With respect to rope twist I mistakenly made the claim with version 1 that the rope twist was defeated. Well we all know how that turned out. The Sqwurel offers some compelling advantages but versions 1 and 2 have suffered a rope twist issue. All I can say is you gotta try V3 and see it for your self. The reduction is significant and those who have steered away from the Sqwurel due to rope twist may have a pleasant surprise on their hands this time around. Rather than put any type of number on it, I will let community chatter and feed back be the gauge.

A new generation of Sqwurels are making friends with the community! Sqwurel V3, the addictively fun rappel device with a serious technical bite, is on the loose!

Sqwurel V3 comes in 4 colors, blue, orange, green and purple. Being a little lighter, a little shorter, a little narrower and offering significant reduction in rope twist, Sqwurel V3 is new and improved yet tried, true and familiar. The primary motivator for version 3 was to put serious effort into combating rope twist but the smaller size and lighter weight are both worthwhile improvements. It is difficult to concretely quantify the amount of rope twist reduction but there is a big improvement with V3. Take one for a ride or borrow one from a friend and see what you think!

Luke, quick question, does the new little hole above the 'biner hole serve a purpose? Or is it just about cutting weight by removing unneeded metal from the body?

It is just about cutting weight. The amount saved is minimal but thought I would do what I can to keep it light.

My son and I did three canyons in the Roost this past week, each of us using our own version 3 Sqwurel. Loved it! Rope twist was minimal or not noticed. Btw, spec says adding friction through the tail is not compatible on double rope (or something to that effect) but it actually works extremely well on smaller 8mm ropes like the BW Canyon Extreme that I was using for two of the three canyons. We mostly did single rope toggle retrieves but double repel was fantastic too. My son is a fairly competent beginner for canyoneering (repelling and rope work most of his young life but new to canyons). His confidence really ratchet up a big notch using the Sqwurel. Very intuitive and good flow when adding friction ... so much better than the Petzl Piranha he’s use to using. Lock-off is fantastic too. Thanks for rush shipping these for our trip Luke!

Thanks for the feedback on the reduced rope twist as that is one of the major improvements I would like to hear if people are benefiting from. Always good when you get to see someone's confidence go up.

The Lockdown Luster color-name is a nod to the many ways COVID and the associated lockdowns have impacted almost every aspect of our lives. To reduce the cost of recent skyrocketing aluminum prices, this batch of Sqwurels is not anodized in various colors and is naked aluminum with machine engraved labeling. While still costing more to produce than previous batches, dropping the anodization made it possible to keep the retail price competitive.
