Some Zion Canyoneering photos from this weekend. My son Kessler and I did Echo (forgot the camera for that one) and Right Fork North Creek. Since we took three full days in Right Fork, we had plenty of time for extra exploration and explored some of the off the beaten track slots. What was nice about the Right Fork is that after experiencing the ridiculous crowds in the main canyon, we didn't see a soul for the next three days until we were a few feet from the parking lot.

Yes; that route plus side trips. Side trips were the slots in Wildcat Canyon, checking out peaks 6920 and 7008, and exploring the first two side canyons below Double Falls (the south one is a really good one).

We thought about the Hammerhead, since I haven't done it (I already did the standard route in 1992), but in Echo on Friday I had a bad reaction to neoprene, so I didn't want to wear any, thus the standard route. Since we didn't bring wetsuits (my son brought a neoprene jacket), we had originally planned to bypass the Black Pool as well and the pools at the next rappel after that (the water at the Grand Alcove is usually warmer). Anyway, I jumped into the Black Pool to test it out. It didn't feel that bad to me (my son apparently didn't fully agree with my opinion), so we just swam though this one and the next swims too. We stayed in the watercourse the entire distance, including at all rappels and through the Grand Alcove.

Naturally, now I wish we had exercised the option to go. Next time.
