Hey all.. thought I'd toss this out there since it's canyoneering related. 2 1/2 weeks ago at the North Wash Rendezvous I strained my left chest muscle pretty bad (I think it was during a quick tutorial on using an ascender, which would make sense.. (not being familiar how to use one without totally tearing a muscle to sh*t haha).

I thought by now it would've started healing/feeling better but it's stayed at a constant/occasionally sharp pain. I also seem to keep re aggravating it by sneezing, climbing into bed wrong, or most seriously, laughing my *ss off from getting insane photos from friends who are canyoneering right now down in the Roost. (A friend sent this to me as a confession.. apparently he has a secret addiction to markdown baked Easter goods. (It was too random to maintain composure.. I also almost spit coffee out over my keyboard).

So yeah.. any thoughts on this? I'm thinking I'm hardly the first to deal with something along these lines.

    Thanks so much!

    Chest muscle...?

Your pectoralis major? Did you damage the tendon, maybe a partial tear?

Probably need someone to diagnose what actually you did...muscle tear, tendon, etc.

As for me, I detached mine. Got it sewn back to the bone. Good times.

Brian, was your injury incurred while ascending as well?

Detached mine climbing (so, ascending...ha ha). Pulled out to rest under a roof and had both my arms sorta straight out from my shoulders. Shifted my weight side-to-side to milk a short rest, and, felt something slip. Really, felt like when you tear that last piece of meat off a t-bone steak. Four holes in my humorous bone and sewn back in. Crazy.

Yeah, if you're continuing to have the issues you mentioned, I'd get it looked at. PT folks are amazing when it comes to recovery.
