Anyone know the current conditions in Pine Creek in Zion? Its obviously winter so I would expect cold water but what about ice build up? Snow pack? Looking to do it within a week or so? Thanks
Just go to the bottom and ask the groups coming out what it looked like. Seriously though, it's cold in there in November. March sounds like a survival trek to me, but there are crazy folks on here that do Heaps in December so it's obviously doable. Dress warm and have a plan for any icy floors or snow/ice barriers you may encounter (crampons? ice tools?)
I had planned to do it on December 22nd. There was ice in the first 3 pools, but none of it was frozen to the walls, so when you stepped on it it dumped like a mousetrap, and then you were left gripless trying to wrangle yourself on top of a 300lb sheet of mobile ice. I went back up the rope and called it a day. Haven't checked conditions since.
