The rain came at 1:20 AM. Guy and I made room for the gals who sprinted to the megamid. These were my first conscious memories of my 3rd birthday in Grand Canyon in the last 4 years. The day dawned gray but dry. These folks wanted to show Jenny and I a favorite canyon. Ahhhh, OK, I'm alright with that. A complex approach leads to the goods and we are in a fine place. Partner assisting down drops. Gawk at the beauty of the next corner, all the while being told that the lighting of the day was muted. Seemed OK to me. Thanks for the tour. Then eight miles of hike to water, leaves my toes hot and certain places prone to....ahhh...rash. I can barely walk. A reminder that the birthdays are adding up..

We are headed to another canyon the next day. Two tough days either way we do it. I can't say no. Is it because i don't want to miss anything or it it that I can't admit that this all may be too much for me, as the birthdays add up? The satellite call that Rich makes rescues me. Big storm coming. The long muddy approach road about to become impassable, perhaps trapping us till spring. Must get out! Saved by the bell! Thanks to our lovely group of friends for a fine tour de canyon once again.

awesome set. lighting was a bit subdued. the lack of water this winter shows.

i can't believe the corkscrew didn't even make the set! one of the coolest limestone features there is.

Yeppers it was indeed a great trip. A blatant missing piece was having Sir Ransom along. Just a year ago, we opted to skip the exploration trip and ended up mooning helicopters from a tamarisk infested reedy slice of a camp in GC. I would have loved to have him along for my first peek. It was worth the wait. Thanks Rich and Queen of Slawaland. Ram, I do believe that the satellite phone weather report came in to save me! Jenny

Great photos Ramoo! Dan, the Corkscrew did not make it b/c the sandstone rats :) were also speeding rats ... what totally amazed me was that we did the whole canyon with a ... pull cord - ha! ha! And we really did not even need that - Jenny, Ram and Guy are such a cool team ... Slawa

Don't know who came up with the name. It wasn't me, but I like it- you had to be there. It was aimed squarely at Slawa. It got to where I distanced myself from the enthusiastic gal because I thought I would lose more hearing, something I can ill afford. Great seeing someone loving live so. R

Well! I surely do love to twist and I definitely have the vest. Had a good jig in a sandstone ballroom with Eric G. a while back, too. However, I don't think Ram dances. I'll bet Guy and Rich do, and we all KNOW that Slawa does. J --- In Yahoo Canyons Group, "Dan" <carpeybiggs@...> wrote:

Not true Slawa Faire! You tried to keep me in the front of the pack to see it first, something i appreciate, but pictures and contemplations had me drifting to the rear often. Such good company about. Who could blame me?
