Saw a few scars from trekking poles in Spry this past trip.

Excepting Ram, I can't understand why anyone would bother bringing trekking poles down a technical canyon. And they leave all these scars behind.

    Please don't.

Tom Where these marks in the canyon from poles, high low or on the sides? Scratches on the walls, like attached to a pack? If you take poles in, make sure they collapse and can fit in a pack. Rubber tips help also. RAM

    Actually, ahem, uh, well...

we only saw marks on the approach, on an unlikely slab where they probably did little good. didn't see any marks in the canyon, so maybe they were properly stowed in the canyon proper.
