How do you then move the knot to the front edge of the pizza slice? Or do you leave it in the middle and just hope for the best?

    Whoa!

That certainly counts as marginal. The Union of the rope and webbing is certainly interesting. I'd rap off a fresh piece of webbing in that knot chock, but I'd eliminate that rope from the scenario.

Looked like a single fisherman connecting the two with only 1in of tail on the webbing. This was in place at a 180ft rappel.

That anchor is fine, the rigging sucks.

Hey Deagol, I realize it's a pretty old post but I got a kick out of finding it. I took an almost identical picture in March 2015, just before removing everything and making a new anchor 20ft closer to the edge. Here's all the pretty colors from the rest of the canyon on my hotel floor.

Seems like unnecessary risk for a heavily guided route.

No way would I rap off that. I don't even think the anchor is adequate for a rappel where the consequence of failure is near certain death and the rigging is terrible. In my view that's part of an adequate anchor. I want to see at least one other part.

What's the actual anchor for the water canyon anchor? All I see is the rigging. Is there a chockstone behind that knot?

Here's another rigging example from earlier in the canyon, slung around a cairn anchor, another reason we rebuild and evaluate other people's work. Everything looked to be at least a few years old.

This knot looks pretty good (from what is visible) - what am I missing?

I think they were going for a double fisherman, I've never seen it tied back to back like this, though It seemed strong enough.

I can't tell how it's tied from the picture...looks a tad unorthodox for sure, but....are you saying it was solid?

It felt solid, I'll dig it out and have a look at it later. From memory it looked prone to capsizing. I'll do some tests.

Would I rap off that rock tied with that rope? You bet.

    But I don't trust a man who doesn't dress his knots ;)

    Snob factor? Perhaps...
