The climbers contacted police around 6 p.m. and said someone had shot at them from the north as they were hiking near 5267 E. Little Cottonwood Canyon Road, Unified Police Ltn. Brian Lohrke said in a news release. The climbers were not hit, but told police they could hear bullets passing by and hitting nearby rocks. One witness told police a green car with about three people inside could have been involved. The car left the canyon before police arrived, Lohrke said. Investigators found several used bullet casings straight across the canyon from where the group was climbing. Anyone with information is asked to call Unified Police at 801-743-7000.
