While checking my rope Sterling CanyonLux today, I noticed that the core had shrunk about 2+ inches. Is this normal and safe?

The image shows where the core ends but the sheath continues. [IMG]

Normal, but...now is a great time to get rid of that potentially-rope-sticking chock on the end of your rope :) Hot cutting won't work on the Technora sheath. Most folks use seam grip or similar to seal the sheath material where it is to be cut (to prevent unraveling), then cut it there once the sealant has dried.

I've had good luck sealing those tech rope ends with super glue.

hot cutting the technora sheath may not work
A flexible cement like vinyl cement or thru the roof cement will avoid making
    another 'rope sticking chock'
    :D

Most rope brands/models do this once in a while
