interactive snow data

Discussion in 'Archives - Yahoo Canyons Group' started by Stefanos Folias, Mar 25, 2006.

  1. i just thought i'd share two sites that i found a couple of weeks ago, both link through noaa.

this first one gives interactive snow depth data for the u.s. for example, with the cursor you can draw a rectangle and it will zoom in to show you the snow depth and coverage in that area.

    http://tinyurl.com/mzsck

this next link connects snow data with google earth (available for mac).

    http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/earth/

The first column of links generates Snow Analyses Overlays, and the second column of links generates Snow Reports and Stations

This page describes what these are, but i have included some of it below:

    * The "Snow Analyses Overlays" are small .kmz files which drape overlays of snow model input and output rasters over terrain.

    * The "Snow Reports and Stations" section contains links to larger .kmz files which provide placemarks for stations that have recently reported snow. [this allows you to link up with that station and what it has to offer]

    cool stuff, hope you enjoy.

  2. sorry, i forgot to mention, in the first link

    http://tinyurl.com/mzsck

in the upper left-hand sidebar, there is a menu called "select physical element" you can change this from snow cover, to a myriad of options(related to snow), as well as change the date. to do this press the "plus sign" button below it and the image will be redrawn.
