    Look what came in today...

FINALLY got my production samples from the shop in Shanghai, and they are looking good. Made a few changes from the last run, though mainly improvements to the standard line of packs and rope bags. Here are the new colors - Blue Teal and Cranberry Red.

There were a few last-minute problems getting certain fabrics in China, but we are finally underway moving into production. I am expecting the big shipment to show up middle-end of August. We will start taking orders next week.

    IML 124 900.

The Spry and the women's packs will be using both colors, while the rest of the packs will be mono-color.

    Tom,

Lookin' good. I hope "you know who" doesn't slap tariffs on them.

I think tarrifs are being imposed in this class, but that I get in before they are imposed. They already carry about a 15% duty.

Any specifics improvements you would like to share? I carry a Spry now and am quite happy with it.

I'm working on that article. It will probably take a week.

Did you source a better PVC than the most recent generation? There was a noticeable difference in the quality of the vinyl used in the 2012-14 packs and the 2015+ packs.

My observation is that the 2015 vinyl was inconsistent. I saw about 1/20 or less packs where the vinyl chewed up too fast... (but it is not clear that people complain when this happens). Other changes to the packs were made to account for when the vinyl gets chewed (the mesh behind the vinyl on the sides was changed to the heavy mesh, rather than the light mesh, to make the pack last longer after the vinyl wears through).

This is something hard to manage from 6400 miles away, but is on my list to deal with for the next order.

I like the old colors better if anyone cares.

The problem I have with the PVC is that neither roofing sealant nor aquaseal stays on it very well. I'd prefer to just smear that on there every 5 canyons or so, but it doesn't seem to last one (where it lasts around 5 canyons on cordura or neoprene.) Not sure if PVC without that stuff lasts longer than cordura with it, but I'd love to figure out a way to get two seasons out of a pack instead of one. Maybe even a hard plastic skid plate back there on the rear, lower corners would be an improvement, even at an additional cost or weight.

Here is a better rendition of the 2018 colors. Some people will like them, some people won't. Since I had been using the green and orange (a couple different versions) for about 5 years, I really thought it was time for a change.

    Wellllllll.......

I finally got a (still rather soft) production commitment from my friends in Shanghai, and it is a month later than I expected. They plan on shipping about Sept 1; which means I will get them the last week of September.

    (Sigh)
