Hello I have a climbing harness and use it for canyoneering activities I'm looking for a good and complete harness for canyoning Please share your experience about canyon Harness and introduce me with reasons, advantages and disadvantages of it.
It would be useful to know what kind of canyons you are doing. What kind of canyons are you doing? Are you a climber? Where do you live? Tom
As a general rule, the least expensive one is the best one for canyoneering. My preference is a Black Diamond Momentum climbing harness. It's fairly cheap at $43-60 and comfy to hang in for a while. I protect it with a cheaper pair of neoprene shorts. Those tend to last me 5-10 canyons. The harness usually lasts me 2-3 seasons (50-75 canyons) despite trying to protect it as best I can. There are canyon specific harnesses with a built in protective seat. Tom sells a protective seat that can go over some harnesses. Many canyoneers prefer very bare bones harnesses without padding as the padding is what gets destroyed first. Like so much of canyoneering gear (all of which should be considered consumption items/disposable) it really comes down to how much money you're willing to pour into the sport repeatedly.
I'm too a fan of the BD Momentum, but does anyone have a PVC solution for wear that would attach to the newer (closed leg loop variety) Momentums? That would be a nice setup of price/durability I'd think. -Brent
Not a fan of the tissue-paper-clad Momentum harness, though perhaps they have changed it. I sell and like the Singing Rock Versa harness. The leg loops open fully, so it can take a Shuffle Butt or Scuttle Butt. The buckle/webbing combination is exceptionally durable AND usable. Tom
I explore the blue water canyon but i also explore the dry canyon several times a year I Do Climbing For Fun and I have a petzl Luna harness , Now used to for canyons and climbing. Im From Iran, middle East
Welcome!! I have an older version of a Petzl harness that looks like the Canyon Club but has gear loops on both sides. Fit isn't great for me (one size fits all type harnesses rarely do). But, I like the style. Severel friends have the Singing Rock harnesses and they seem pretty good. I use the tissue paper Momentum...fit is great and the price is good. I can buy three of them for the price of a top canyon specific harness. But I recognize they're nearly disposible for a lot of the dry Utah canyons we have here. They get torn up pretty quickly. Share some canyon info for us if you have time! Be great to learn about opportunites in your area. Some of us have been nearby for climbing (Turkey). Cheers!
Thank you , in iran we have great canyon in north and south of iran , if you want try this , you can message me.
The AmazeFan Climbing harness off Amazon is on the heavy side but very comfy, well suited for canyoneering, and dirt cheap at only $30: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081TXCH47/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Certainly no one can complain about the price but I hope it is obvious that this is a Chinese copy which has no discernable brand, and no actual CE certifications. The interweb (especially amazon) is now awash in counterfeit safety equipment of dubious origin. Last year a Taiwanese company attempted copying one of our designs and it failed in use- nearly killing a Canadian stunt performer. There is such a thing as too cheap.... $23 dollars more gets you a real harness https://www.canyoneeringusa.com/store/?category=Harnesses
We've used a batch of 30 knock off chinese harnesses for over 4 years without incident, and the quality has been great. Just because it's chinese doesn't mean it's crap or going to fail on you. But by all means you can fork out double the price for a harness that works just as good that you are going to rip up anyway Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Try Sierra Trading post they have Mad Rock, Edelrid and Camp harnesses starting from 30 dollars. https://www.sierra.com/s~climbing-harness/
