I have a feeling that this group has seen some pretty amazing flash floods and storms over the years. If you have any photos or video of "weather gone awesome" please share them here.

Cascade canyon - Ouray, CO - Julie and I were with a group in Cascade last August. We were pretty far through the canyon when the weather changed. It was barely raining before this rap, but right before we setup the rope the rain picked up.The rap was about 180-200 feet, I went first. I had noticed that the water had turned brown right before I got on rappel. I thought it was my partners up canyon stirring up sand/dirt(before this the water was completely clear). That was a mistake...About half way down I felt the flow of water start to increase in waves. Shortly after that the flow increased quite dramatically. Small rocks started coming down followed by much bigger rocks. I FLEW down that rap as fast as possible. Only took one shot of the waterfall as I was a bit shaken up.

Afterward I thought about what happened. The rain increasing and the water turning brown should have been a clear indicator that something wasn't right(conditions were changing rapidly). Next time I see the color of the water turn, I will head to higher ground and assess the situation.

I took this from the summit ridge on Mount Timpanogos during a solo backpacking trip gone wild in 2011. Within the hour this was pound down on top of me  talk about a terrifying time to be above tree line.

This pic is just under the bridge going into the Zion tunnel, looking toward the first rappel of Pine Creek. Sure hope no one was down there.

Just completed this canyon, and on the way back along the rim it flashed.

An oldie but a goodie, from a massive flood that ripped through Spry. Fortunately, no serious injuries for a group of 9 canyoneers. Crazy.

This is footage from Matkatamiba in Grand Canyon that we used in "Last of the Great Unknown" when telling the story of the Steck brothers narrowly escaping a flash in 150 mile. If you've ever been to this spot, it's positively mind blowing seeing that mayhem. All the boats were blown out of the mouth, and later corralled downcanyon by other boating groups. Scary stuff!

Some video from a trip through Behunin in September 2011. We had stayed out of the canyons for 3 days because of threatening weather reports. but got only some light sprinkles on any of the 3 days. We finally got a good weather report for this day. The sky was clear all day until just before the canoyon flashed. This is the result, and we barely beat it out. Sorry for the poor quality of some of the video. At times the spray and rain was too heavy to get a good clear shot. Some of you may have seen this video on other websites. It was amazing to see first hand, and the video doesn't do it justice. Still scares me when I think about it for awhile. Enjoy.
