Yes, I am with Kris that not visiting Escalante is shameful. Hence I propose a spring trip there. Lets get a little group going. Nothing like planning for a trip to make a trip happen... whos with me?

Brando I was down in Escalante this morning adding onto the BBQ area (it was so warm and quiet, by the way!) when I was thinking: We need a spring party this year.

Usually have a pretty good gathering the third week of April, ski bums/mountain bikers seeking warmth. Love to get some canyoneers to join the fun Rick ----- Original Message ----- From: Brando To: Yahoo Canyons Group Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2003 9:03 PM Subject: [from Canyons Group] Escalante...

Would one of those aforementioned mountain bikers be welcome? Bear in mind that I was humbled by Dang Canyon. Two things stopped me from completing Dang, fear and common sense. I've done a bunch of the non- technical slots in Utah and loved them all. But when it comes to technical canyoneering, I'm a pretty accomplished mountain biker.

Do members of this esteemed group have the time and willingness to pass some of their canyoneering skills on to a new generation of aspiring canyoneers?

Bring your bike, canyon gear and fly rod ( if your into fishing). Some will probably do a little skiing too, snow and prison passes pending. Cheers Rick

So in April sometime, when it approaches, Escalante is a go. I was thinking of doing Egypt and Neon. But, I do enjoy spending time in Coyote Gulch too. Keep me posted.

I apologize if this reply got double posted. When I hit the send button on the first reply my message appeared to go into never-never land. So I'll try it again.

I got a taste of lower Death Hollow below the Boulder-Mail Trail last summer. Even though lower DH offers no technical challenges, I found it to be spectacularly beautiful and a whole lot of fun. Would an Escalante-Boulder Mail Trail-Death Hollow-Escalante River-Escalante hike be too pedestrian an adventure for this gathering? Is this loop feasible/practical to do as a day hike? If there were any interest in this hike, then sign me up.

    Hi Rick and Rock Enthusiasts,

Great!!! Have you gotten to the point in the planning stage where
you've got some idea of the adventures you're planning for the

  10. You can do that loop in a very long day, but a word of warning. Since someone mentioned the trip was In April, you had better take a wetsuit. The upper canyon (well above the BMT) is usually filled with snow at that time of year which makes for very cold water in April. We did Death Hollow once in early spring, and we packed a small raft through to float across the pools.
