I hate walking by trash for the same reason ... superstition. ;) I finally drew the line on a local trail ... I don't pick up anything likely to have fresh body fluids on it ...

Uh, it was just cable lying around on the bottom of the canyon, some parts under rocks and dirt. Ends just cut, no fittings. My guess is that someone tried to pull the motorcycle out with the wire, since it is about the length of the drop; but the motorcycle looked much older than the cable. It was not installed, it was just trash lying about at the bottom of the first rappel.

OK; makes sense. I was wondering why there was a canyon named Motorcycle Canyon, but now I know.

Happy to report we cleared those jeans out of there this week! We did leave a little a fake blood behind on a rock. Shenanigans...

Shelf Canyon, Zion. Only one rappel, off a scraggly tree. The anchor sling is 35 feet long. THREE strands of 1" tubular webbing. Somehow I think the tree is not sturdy enough to break one piece of webbing (circa 3000 lbs), so not sure why this anchor would have 9000 lbs worth of webbing on it!

Yes and no. getting up there along the rim is nothing special, but there is that narrowing spot crossing the head of the canyon. The pass up toward Spry too. And a little of the slickrock about the base of East Temple...But yeah, on a hot day, the bottom is a lovely place to hide out

 Who knows? Maybe it was concern over running webbing across the Engelmann prickly pear...dang things have sliced right through whatever I was wearing and speared whatever was on the others side, too many times.

Ok this one is pretty bad. Found at the base of the final rap in Boundary. One can only speculate why the book....Make sure you are set up on rap properly? Make sure the anchor you are using is in the book? Can't remember water knots? Bored while others are on rappel? Thinking about taking up a new sport cause canyoneering is dumb? Extra TP? Either way they left it once they survived the tech section, and promptly left it in the rain to soak up water so that whomever carries it out gets the extra workout. Then they slammed a budweiser, ditched the sunscreen and deet (maybe there weren't any bugs or sunlight?), and took off!

Removed today from Lodge Canyon, ZNP.

Also the last wall had a pair of newish bolts (not removed) about 20 ft up from what I presume are the std/historical bolts for the last drop. Both pulls seemed better from the lower/std set. Are the upper ones recent?

Hank, I beleive the bolts I'm referring to are further down canyon, 20 ft up from the last rap.

There was a single bolt there 10 years ago, and I placed a second one beside it to complete the anchor. Essentially it is an anchor for those who did not bring a long enough rope, as that 2nd to last rappel is likely the longest. Hopefully they do not get used very much. I see no reason to remove them, kinda like those bolts on the last rap in Behunin.
