  2. Good story and great point's made about backing out of a canyon. I've done that very thing several times. They vary in degrees of pain, the worst being backing out of Imlay after suiting up and getting to the sandy overhang. It was barely sprinkling as we suited up and got through the first series of raps to the camp spot. At the campspot the clouds socked in and rain became a bit more persistant. If you want to witness something that looks sad, watch 4 canyoneers stand on the slickrock, peering to the limited amount of sky they had and each trying to convince themselves that it would break at any time. As most know, who have done this canyon(sneak), an early start is mandatory. Hiking in headlamps at 4am is hardly conducive to seeing the night sky, or lack there of. In the end, there was only one right decision, and we all could feel it's pain welling up inside. On the hike out(this REALLY sucks) It finally let loose and started raining hard enough to be flowing off the Sandstone from most every direction. Seemed like a slight justification for doing the right thing. As an aside--the chance of precipitation for this day was 0%

Fun story from one of my far-flung correspondents, with some good pics.
