Heading out to Neon and Ringtail this weekend and wondering if anyone has a pothole water level report for either or both since Canyonero's group a couple weeks ago?

Yep, one week ago the Neon keepers were completely full. Wetsuits required. Escalante can be pumped.

Hey thanks LonePeak. It looks like rain in the area over the course of today and tomorrow too so it should be a pretty easy passage.

The rain will muddy the Escalante (and tributaries) for a few days, so be prepared to being something in which to let the water settle for several hours before pumping or bring an alternative water purification method, though it may be clear by the weekend.

Or camp at Fence- super clear and tasty water.

I can't imagine those potholes are anywhere near keeper level yet.

The water 100 yards up the mouth if Neon is usually clear and delicious.

Thanks to all for the input. It rained a bit on Wednesday afternoon and evening and there were no pothole issues in Neon. There were a few long cold swims. One of the long swims included a swimming snake that fell in from the rim. I'm glad I wasn't doing the backstroke at the time of discovery. The river is running about knee to thigh deep at the confluence with Neon. We took the beeline route in so we didn't get to sample the good water from Fence that Canyonero mentioned. We used a chemical settling technique on the Escalante water and it settled and we filtered with no problem - other than the lousy taste. LonePeak is right about the stagnant water in the mouth of Neon. You would need to go up quite a ways to find something decent right now.

Best place to pump: golden cathedral!

Except recently the Golden Cathedral was particularly stagnant compared to other places around, with picturesque green pond scum.
