Hi there, new member, not new canyoneer. Recently said eff FB so asking on the forums.

There's two routes for Heaps that both meet up at the crossroads, one via Phantom Valley and one via Gunsight aka North Fork Heaps.

I'm looking for advice on which is quicker. It appears that Gunsight is a tad shorter, but I think less travelled so could be longer time.

I'm in absorb all data mode as I haven't been through Heaps yet.

    Thanks in advance!

Map pulled off the internets shows what I'm talking about

Welcome to the Kollective! Somewhat more informative than Facebook, I hope.

The Phantom Valley version of Heaps is considered "the real thing", at least by me. There is a very nice section of pothole narrows. Might be just a 1/4 mile long, but does represent maybe 40% of the interesting sports-action in Heaps.

The Gunsight route is faster. And that section is nothing special. Perhaps I am prejudiced as I have only gone down that way twice. Mostly dry.

But the REAL full meal deal was pioneered earlier this year by rapping into the bowl east of the usual ridge approach... looked pretty tasty!

I hope so too. Now, if I'm a super good hiker, and my significant other rock climbs, what do I need to buy to go canyonneeering for my first time in cerberus death valley?

Appreciate the beta Tom, that's good info.
That bowl does look cool. I'll eyeball it tomorrow.
