    The Hype
Crack Canyon is a fairly interesting non-technical canyon that cuts thought the San Rafael Reef near Goblin Valley. The highlights of the canyon are in the upper end where you will find 300' vertical walls and short but very interesting subway section. There is a pair of minor dry falls in the 7' range that could be difficult to a solo hiker who doesn't have any climbing experience. The flash flood potential is moderate and you can see most of the drainage on the drive in to the trail head.

    Getting There

    Access Road:
From highway 24 follow the paved road and signage towards Goblin Valley State Park. Once you reach the T in the road continue northwest and soon you will past a large RV camping area and the road will cross into the San Rafael Reef. The road will turn to dirt and you will pass a plethora of camp sites before the road forks. Take the southwest fork onto the behind the reef or chute canyon road. Continue down the road until you reach the Crack Canyon trail head.

    From the Trailhead:
Follow the main wash south towards the large cliffs on the back side of the San Rafael Reef. If you have a decent 4x4 you can drive down this wash and park at the WSA boundary.
    Canyon
Walk down canyon under the gigantic vertical walls and soon you will reach the Crack Canyon Subway. About a .25 mile down canyon further you will encounter the first dry fall and slot where you actually touch both side of the canyon at once. From there the canyon widens and slots up a handful of times before exiting the reef.

    The Exit

Crack Canyon is best hiked as an out and back from the North side of the San Rafael Reef.
